GENERAL INTRODUCTION ABOUT DAKNONG

Dak Nong lies in the Southwest of the Central Highlands region of Vietnam, at the ending section of the Truong Son mountain chain; Dak Nong is specified in around geographic coordinate of 11045' to 12050' North latitude, 107013' to 108010' East longitude.

It borders Dak Lak province to the North and Northeast, Lam Dong province to the East and the Southest; Binh Phuoc province to the West and the Southwest, the Cambodia Kingdom to the West. Dak Nong is also located in development triangle zone of Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia. 

The province covers a  natural area of 6.514,38 km2, with 08 administrative units of districts and town and the population of 650,927 people (statistical figure of 2016). The province is home to around 40 ethnic minority groups, including the groups of Kinh, M'nong, Tay, Thai, Ede, Nung, of which, the group of Kinh people accounts for 65.5%, M'nong 9.7; other groups take up only a small proportion. The provincial capital is Gia Nghia. 

Being located in the Southwest gateway of the Central Highlands, Dak Nong has National Road No.14, connecting Ho Chi Minh city and the Southeast provinces to the Central Highlands provinces. The provincial capital is about 230 km away from Ho Chi Minh City to the North and about 120 km away from Buon Ma Thuot city (Dak Lak province) to the Southwest; National Road No. 28 connecting Dak Nong to Lam Dong province, Binh Thuan province and  the coastal provinces in the Central region of Vietnam. It is about 180km away from Da Lat city (Lam Dong province) and 230km away from Phan Thiet city (Binh Thuan province) to the East. Dak Nong has over 130 km of border line with the neighbor Cambodia Kingdom, with 02 border gates of Bu Prang and Dak Peur connecting to Mondulkiri, Kratie, Kandal, Pnom Penh, Siem Reap, etc.

In the future, once implemented, the railway routes of Dak Nong - Chon Thanh - Di An to Thi Vai port and Dak Nong - Tan Rai to Ke Ga port would open the door for the province to speed up the exploitation of its advantageous potential.

The geographic position as mentioned above enables the province to expand cooperation with the provinces in the Central Highlands and Southern core economic zones; coastal provinces in the central region and the neighbor Cambodia Kingdom. The potential it has also plays as motivation for the province to speed up socio-economic development, looking up to becoming a center for dynamic economic development of the Central Highlands in the future.
